The Candidates I Support in the 2025 Democratic Primary

As a candidate for Mount Vernon City Council, I believe it’s important to not only talk about my own vision for this city but also to support others who have consistently demonstrated leadership, accountability, and a deep commitment to Mount Vernon. In this year’s Democratic Primary, I’m proud to share my support for a number of individuals who I believe are best positioned to move our city and county forward.

County Legislators: Tyrae Woodson-Samuels & David Tubiolo

Let’s start with two of the easiest choices—Tyrae Woodson-Samuels and David Tubiolo for Westchester County Legislator. These gentlemen aren’t just running unopposed—they’re running with strong, proven records of service to our city.

As PBA President, I had the opportunity to meet with Tyrae and David on multiple occasions to address critical issues within the Mount Vernon Police Department. They were always accessible, responsive, and genuinely concerned about the well-being of our officers and our community. Their track record speaks for itself, and I have no doubt they will continue to advocate for Mount Vernon at the county level.

Judge: Peter Davis

When it comes to our courts, Judge Peter Davis is the clear and only qualified choice. He is the only candidate in this race who has served as a Judge, Prosecutor, and Defense Attorney—experience that uniquely qualifies him to understand every side of the justice system.

Judge Davis doesn’t need "on-the-job training" or “judge school.” He already possesses the legal skill set, temperament, and real-world experience to serve from day one. Mount Vernon deserves a judge who can hit the ground running, and that’s exactly what we’ll get with Judge Davis.

Comptroller: Benjamin Montgomery

For the critical role of City Comptroller, I fully support Benjamin Montgomery, CPA. With more than 30 years of experience in financial leadership—spanning corporate, nonprofit, government, and educational sectors—Benjamin brings the kind of financial acumen and professionalism our city urgently needs.

While I appreciate that Rev. Darren Morton has always been kind and responsive to me during my time as PBA President, Mount Vernon simply cannot afford continued mismanagement. Under his watch, the city lost $400,000 in a telephone scam—an error that would likely result in termination in any other profession. Additionally, back audits remain unfinished, and many city departments haven’t been properly reviewed in years.

Benjamin Montgomery has the qualifications, integrity, and work ethic to restore accountability and fiscal health to Mount Vernon’s finances.

City Council: Nick Mastrogiorgio and Bill Schwartz

Of course, I’m supporting my own candidacy for City Council—because I know what Mount Vernon is capable of when we have real leadership. I’m not a politician—I’m a retired police lieutenant, a lifelong resident, and someone ready to make this my full-time job. I’m committed to restoring transparency, pushing for fiscal responsibility, and ensuring our city agencies get the resources they need to serve you better.

Alongside me, I proudly support Bill Schwartz for City Council. A 20-year Mount Vernon resident and a professional in the health and wellness field, Bill is running on a platform of lower taxes, infrastructure improvement, and government accountability. He’s one of the few candidates boldly opposing excessive salary increases for city officials and fighting to redirect spending toward the real needs of our residents—like roads, sewers, and public safety.

Still Evaluating a Third Council Endorsement

As for the third City Council seat, I’m still evaluating the field of candidates and will make my final endorsement as we get closer to the election. My decision will be based on who I believe will be most committed to the people—not politics.

Together, these are the candidates I trust to bring experience, integrity, and real results to Mount Vernon and beyond. I hope you’ll join me in supporting them this election season—and help us build a city that works for all of us.
